savannah futon frame
I am very pleased and impressed with this piece of furniture. The poplar is nice looking and almost without blemish. Some of the boards may have a greenish hue- the manufacturer claims it will fade to light brown over time, or with 20-30 minutes in direct sunlight. The sunlight trick didn't really work for me. Doesn't matter though- 90% of the frame is hidden under the mattress and will never be seen. The arms and long pieces that are visible were all beautiful, so that's all that matters.
Assembly is SIMPLE. You open the two boxes and think, "Wow, that's a lot of parts..." but it could NOT be easier to put together. It took me less than 45 minutes. Instructions are excellent, everything is rock solid, and the operation is simple.
If you plan on finishing the frame, be prepared for a bigger project. Some light sanding with 220 is a good idea. I am finishing with Minwax Polyshades (stain/urethane combined); I also used the pre-stain conditioner recommended for soft or porous...

Savannah Futon
Lots of assembly, but not difficult. All the parts were there and the instructions were adequate. Actually, really decent quality for the price: solid wood as advertised, though poplar I wouldn't technically classify as a hardwood; it's more like pine with a greenish hue. Pretty, though. Claims that uit comes pre-sanded, but it needs a finish sanding before staining/painting. Works great, no complaints.
Love the company, love the frame
I bought this frame a year ago and it's still amazing. Such a great price for a quality piece of furniture. Putting it together was very easy as long as you can follow instructions. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how heavy the wood and the mattress would be to lift into couch mode, so I keep it as a bed most of the time. I wouldn't recommend it unless you keep it one way most of the time or are very strong.

Sturdy, but flawed
I was also nervous about purchasing this futon, but I am glad I did. It took me about 3 hours to put it together. I was by myself, which is why it took so long. If I had another person, it would have been faster. Some of the metal pieces were a tight fit, and some of the protective coating they put on the metal needed to be rubbed off before it would fit. I use tools and build things on a regular basis, so this wasn't a problem for me, but could be frustrating for someone who is more of a beginner (ie. my sister would have thrown it on the floor in frustration, cried, and then called me, her younger sister, to come over and do it for her). The frame and arms do feel very sturdy. The people that would sleep on this are heavier, so I really needed something sturdy. I have not slept on it yet, but the mattress feels very comfortable and is great to sit on. The mattress does have to be removed to change the positions, at least for me and I am pretty strong. Happy with purchase
Purchased this futon for a spare bedroom. Was very hesitant to purchase, since no reviews, but the mattress type sounded superior to what I was finding online at this price point, so I took a chance. Everything was packaged well when shipped and the items arrived without incident. The futon went together easily and the thing is very sturdy. There is no wiggle to it at all. The arms are wood and the remainder of the base so black metal which feels durable. Our last futon had thin wooden slats under the seat that the kids broke when standing on. That shouldn't happen with the metal base. The mattress is moderately firm, but comfortable. Great for both sleeping and sitting. the mattress cover is alsoremovable, so it can be washed.

Overall, very pleased with the item.
